Killer Whales Weekly

May 25, 2007

SVST Families:

Swim practice is off to a great start! Thank you to all the swimmers who are toughing it out in the cool water.

Upcoming important dates:

Big Whale applications are being distributed at practice to swimmers in the 11 & up age group. If you would like to be a Big Whale, please return the form to Coach Sarah Otvos by Tuesday, May 29th.

Monday May 28th is Memorial Day – there will be NO practice

Morning practices begin on Monday June 11th (This is an update to the Red Book)

Sunday June 3rd is the Red/White meet. The warm-ups will begin at 4 and the meet will begin at 5.

The date for the End of Season Banquet has been changed to July 20th same location – Apex UMC from 7-9 pm.

Clinics will be held on the following Saturdays: June 9th, June 16th, & June 23rd. The clinics are an opportunity for swimmers to work on a particular skill set (such as diving) in a smaller group setting. Stay tuned for specific information next week.

Parent Volunteers

This year we are adding two new aspects to the parent volunteer experience. First, we will be raffling off 3 $10 gift cards for local businesses at each meet (including the Red/White meet) for the parent volunteers working that night. Second, we will have a volunteer check-in table so parents can get entered into the raffle. At our home meets the volunteer check-in table will be located behind the life guard desk. You will be given a name tag and entered into the raffle, so make sure you check-in. If you have any questions about volunteer opportunities (or would like to increase your chances of winning by volunteering for more jobs, please call Tracey Lovejoy-Johnson at (919) 387-3326.

Attention Parents of Rising Seniors and Graduating SeniorsScholarships are available through TSA!

* In 2006, 20 TSA swimmers were each awarded a $400 TSA Educational Grant. The same number of grants will be awarded this July to TSA swimmers or coaches who are about to begin their first year of college or other post-secondary school. Contact your team's TSA Representative for eligibility details.

* Pool Professionals is once again generously offering a $1000 Partnership Scholarship to a TSA swimmer. See the application (MS Word format) for more details. Congratulations to Kathryn Bula of the Shepherd's Vineyard Killer Whales for winning the 2006 Partnership Scholarship!
