Message from Coach Maya:

We had a great first week!  I was so pleased with the effort the kids gave everyday, even though it was very chilly.  The temperature is only going to get better, so things are going to be looking better (and warmer!).

As well as I thought it went, the first week had its glitches.  There seems to be some confusion as to what days practice is held.  We have tried to clarify this information online.  We have night practices Monday-Friday until swim meets begin (then we won't have Tuesday nights).  Beginning this week, the exception to this is for the pre-swim team.  They meet only 3 nights a week (Mon, Wed, and Thurs).  When morning practices begin, they will be held Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri (AND wed 6/11).  Again, the exception here is only for the pre-swim team (Mon, Thurs, and Fri).  Secondly, I would like to apologize for the hotline not being updated very promptly.  This part of coaching is new to me, but I think I have it down now.  As coaches, we will continue working on time management.  Several practices ran long, causing others to start late (I guess time flies when you're having fun!). We'll do our best to get on schedule.  As the weather gets warmer, we can spend more time focusing on more instruction.  There were days this week that it was best we just have the kids moving.

Our first clinic of the year will be for 11 & over swimmers on May 31st.  The focus is on turns. Although we have been working on freestyle in practice, we will be working on turns for all strokes for the clinic.  The times for the clinic are 9:30-10:00 and 10:00-10:30.  The charge for the clinic is $3.  The sign up sheet for this clinic will be posted at the pool at 5:00 pm on Tuesday, May 27th.  There will be limited space for these clinics.

Here is information about our Big Whale Program (.doc file).  If you have a child on the team that is 11 & over, please have them consider being a Big Whale.  But, parents please consider your child's meet availability before supporting their decision of signing up for this responsibility.

Please remember that pictures this year will be done before the Red/White meet on June 12th.  Cash, checks and credit cards will be accepted.  Look for further information that will be sent before picture day!

Correction for the Redbook:  The Flick 'N Float is scheduled for Friday, June 27.  There is a clinc scheduled for SATURDAY, June 28th.  Please make sure you make these changes (on the back cover of the Redbook!).

Upcoming Social Event – Pasta Pig Out is June 5th.  More information will follow in a separate email.

Please note that the meet sign-out sheets for all meets are posted on the bulletin board at the pool.  Please make sure you sign your child out if you will not attend part or all of each meet (including the S.W.I.M. invitational meet).

Note for rising Seniors & Graduating Seniors – Check out our website www.svkw.com for information on scholarships & grants. Swimmers can contact Bill Rzik (our TSA rep) via email at nrizk@qualcomm.com or nrizk@bellsouth.com for more information on the scholarships.

Thanks for taking the time to read this through!!  And, please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions.
