SVST Families:

Sunday, June 3rd is the Red/White Meet – Warmups will begin at 4 and the meet will begin at 5. If you will NOT be able to swim in the Red/White, please sign out on the bulletin board at the pool before the pool closes on Friday, June 1st.

What’s for Dinner on Sunday? The concession stand will be open for business selling their full menu (drinks, candy, popcorn, ice cream, pretzels, etc) AND we will have pizza by the slice for sale.

Attention 6 and under parents – please bring individually wrapped non-melting goodies such as brownies, bar cookies, cupcakes, rice crispy treats, salty snack mix, chilled fruit, etc. for the Bake Sale. Each package will be sold for 50 cents. Please deliver the items to the Bake Sale Table near the pool entrance when you arrive. If you have any Bake Sale questions, please call Barb Smiechowski at 363-5161. (Note: All food sales are fundraisers for the pool and the swim team – so come hungry & eat up!)

Volunteers – Please check in at the Volunteer table behind the lifeguard desk to get your nametag and to be entered into the raffle. We will be raffling off 3 $10 gift cards for local businesses at each meet (including the Red/White meet) for the parent volunteers working that night. If you have any questions about volunteer opportunities (or would like to increase your chances of winning by volunteering for more jobs, please call Tracey Lovejoy-Johnson at (919) 387-3326.

A Note on Weather – Safety is a major concern for SV and summer is full of weather related safety issues. We have very detailed plans in place on how to proceed in the event of a weather delay. Please show up at the meet at the proper time even if it seems that weather may impact the event. The 2 TSA representatives make decisions on delays or rescheduling based on several factors. Please call the hotline at 363-4411 for weather delay information.

Upcoming Important Dates:

June 9th Saturday morning clinic – more details in next week’s message

June 11th Morning practices begin. Evening practice times shift to 30 minutes later. (see times on the left)

June 12th Meet at Sunset Ridge (directions). Warmups begin at 5:30 and the meet will begin promptly at 6:00.

June 14th Pasta Pig Out during evening practice – look for signups at the pool

On the Web:

We take water for granted everyday as we swim. The Blue Planet Run will cover 15,200 miles, across 16 countries and 4 continents, 24 hours a day for 95 days to deliver an extremely urgent and important message: we can and must begin today to alleviate the catastrophic burden placed on over a billion people who, every day, must drink unsafe local water, or travel long distances on foot to search for safe water for themselves and their families.

Starting in New York City on June 1, 2007, a team of "20 ordinary male and female athletes doing extraordinary things" will run around the clock along a route that includes the U.S., Ireland, the U.K., France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland, Belarus, Russia, Mongolia, China, Japan and Canada. Two of the runners are from North Carolina! Each runner will sprint 10 miles a day. Batons will be passed at over 1,500 exchange points. The Run will end back in New York City, on September 4, 2007.
