Killer Whales Weekly Message

July 6, 2009

Hello SVST Families - I hope everyone had a relaxing Fourth of July holiday and is ready to go swim an AWAY meet against Prestonwood on Tuesday, July 7. Prestonwood Swim Club is located at 300 Prestonwood Parkway in Cary (467-9279). Since it is an AWAY meet, our warm-ups start at 5:30. The coaches would like all swimmers to be at the Prestonwood pool no later than 5:15 PM. More info: www.svkw.com. Click on the Red Book link for details.

Message from Coach Maya -- S.W.I.M. (Invite Meet) SUNDAY July 12th... the meet will be held at Sunset Ridge and our team has 67 attending!! If you have not been there, please note that there are 2 pools in the Sunset Ridge neighborhood. The address for the SWIM meet pool is 215 Kingsport Drive. 10&under swimmers need to be at the team tent (outside the pool area) by 7:50. Warmups will begin at 8:00. 11&over swimmers need to be at the team tent by 1:20. These warmup times are subject to change, so please check the SV hotline (363-4411) for any changes. Please drop off your swimmers at the pool and then continue on to find a parking space. Parking will be allowed on one side of the street only and will be clearly marked.

Parents... please help encourage your kids to swim for best times during the rest of our season. Preston (in particular) will have some very fast swimmers, but please help them focus on their personal goals and improvement and not the score of the meet. Success is not determined by our team wins! Coach Maya

Volunteer Info and Help Still Needed For the Preston Meet on Tuesday, July 7: Parents - PLEASE help the kid pushers and try to keep your children near their age group areas. It is very hard for the kid pushers to go through the crowd to find the missing children in time to get them lined up correctly for their races and at the same time keep them safe. We also need volunteers for the Prestonwood Meet. If you can help, contact Robin Boudwin directly at 363-3940 or robin@balddog.com.

THURSDAY JULY 23 BANQUET NEWS - UPDATED INFO:

The Killer Whale Awards Banquet is July 23rd from 6-8pm at Hope Chapel in Apex. Get your tickets beginning the week of July 6th.

The SV Swim Team Banquet is always a highlight of the year. The coaches, swim team board and several volunteers are already working to make this year's banquet a memorable event!

Returning as our caterer is McCall's restaurant featuring a menu of: BBQ pulled pork, fried and BBQ chicken, slaw, green beans, potato salad, hush puppies, banana pudding, and peach and cherry cobbler.

Prices: $7.00 per plate for adults/$4.00 per plate for children 12 and under/$25.00 maximum family rate. Please make checks payable to Shepherds Vineyard Swim Team.

Tickets will be on sale beginning the week of July 6th. Tickets will be available for purchase at our away meets. Visit the Shepherds Vineyard volunteer table or look for a ticket seller carrying a red, black and white striped sign. You may also call or e-mail Leslie Bilbro directly, 812-0346 or bilbro@bellsouth.net. Additionally, ticket sellers will be present at many practices (AM and PM).

Message from Dru Hale -- Concessions:

Thanks to everyone that has brought drinks and food. We have done well because of your contributions. Tuesday, July 21 will be our last HOME meet and we want to finish off with a bang.

For the last home meet on July 21, if your last name starts with M-Z, please bring a drink (2 liters of soda, juice or 12 pack of water), if your last name starts with A-L, please bring a snack (homemade or pre-packaged). We have enough Rice Krispie treats and home baked sells the best.

Thanks again for all the food and drinks and if you have any questions please call Dru Hale 219-9815. (If anyone can help with baking the potatoes the day of the meet, please give Dru a call. She will drop them off at your house and you can just bake and bring them in a cooler.)
